People nowadays are on the hunt for therapeutic procedures considered as “alternative” and “natural”; not to mention how welcoming we have also become to food that are naturally-produced or organic, as what they are labeled. For me, what gave this revolution a push is the growing awareness that we have when it comes to the detrimental effects of the many chemicals utilized in food production. As for the pharmaceuticals, people nowadays go for natural products with therapeutic potential because they believe that food products such as vegetables or fruits actually have healing properties, because they want to avoid the adverse effects that synthetic drugs could bring in, to save on the growing cost of medicine, and partly because these alternatives have been gaining popularity lately.
While some unreservedly embrace the value of alternative medicine, there are still those who are still hesitant about it. But whichever really is more effective, we should realize that our body is a very intelligent machine. As an intelligent machine, it is capable of healing itself even without any external interventions. However, the need to use these interventions bubbled because our body, through environmental development and changes has also been exposed to newer triggers, thus the need for more potent remedies. But if we look at things simply, there are actually daily practices that we have which serves as natural healing processes for our body. Check them out!
1. Sleeping
As with our gadgets, sleeping can be compared to shutting them down and recharging their batteries up to a hundred percent. Sleeping recharges the body by allowing the cells to restore and repair the body. When we sleep, we lessen the activities of the human body, thus the body’s energy is focused towards its inherent functions and needs such as tissue repair, immune system enhancement, and of course growth and development.
2. Taking a Bath
Well, let’s acknowledge the reality that there are unfortunate areas in the world wherein the water supply are limited because of their location in the globe and the environmental conditions as well. But in our case wherein water is a commodity that we can avail of, taking a bath is already part of our daily routine. While most of us would look at it as a necessity simply to look and smell good, taking a bath actually is both a healing and preventive measure for our body. By taking a bath we lessen the number of sickness-causing organisms in the body, thus minimizing the possibility of an infection. In addition, taking a bath helps your body relax, decreasing the tension and the stress, thereby detoxifying the body.
3. Drinking Water
You may have heard of this a couple of times already but yes, our body is mainly made up of water. Water is a component of our blood, bones, and other tissues. We also need water for gas exchange which is a basic survival mechanism for us. Thus, our bodily functions are water-dependent, and so we must provide our body with enough clean water for it to function. Water heals the body in such a way that it rehydrates the cells, regulates body temperature, serves as a substrate for many biological processes, and helps maintain our internal homeostasis. And believe it or not, water is effective the way it is.
4. Breathing
Whenever we breathe, we release carbon dioxide which is one of the body’s waste product and we take in oxygen which is necessary for us to survive. By breathing properly or doing breathing exercises, we detoxify our body and flood our cells with oxygen, thus biological processes occur more perfectly.
5. Interaction
Believe it or not, when we interact with other people and the environment in a positive way, we heal our body not only physically but also spiritually. And that’s extremely priceless.
